General terms of use
- The maximum length of a consultation is 45 minutes.
- Users are restricted to booking a maximum of 3 consultations with the same advisor per semester.
- Users who are more than 5 minutes late for a consultation may lose their time slot at the discretion of the advisor.
- Users who persistently miss appointments may lose the right to book appointments at the Center.
- The Center IT facilities are to be used only for academic research or word processing a specific written assignment. The Center is not a general study or exam preparation space.
- Users may not consume food or drink save for water in the Center.
Ethical use of the Center
- Center users may only attend consultations with written work they have prepared beforehand. Advisors cannot assist students unless they have already produced some written work (such as an outline, brainstorming, first draft essay).
- Center advisors will not proof-read and/or edit written work on behalf of a user. Their role is to provide assistance to enable writers to improve their own work.
- Center users will only present their own work to advisors when asking for assistance. Center advisors will terminate any consultations where it appears the material has not been written by the user.
- Center advisors will not translate, summarize or paraphrase any material for inclusion in written work by the Center user.
- Center advisors will not give indicative grades on writing that is part of an assignment given in a course at the university.
- Center users will not request advisors to find research materials on their behalf.
- Center advisors will not comment on the quality of a written assignment or on grades given by other academic staff.
- Center advisors will not take payment for any assistance provided nor suggest giving a user additional private lessons or consultations.
- All discussions between a Center advisor and user will be kept confidential and not disclosed to any third party without express, written permission to do so.
- Center advisors and users will abide by both the letter and spirit of the university’s general rules on academic integrity.
